I’ve finally ditched substack for the time being, at least as a personal writing platform. I’m going to concentrate on my doctoral work for the next year or two, which takes place in a non-public place, at least until I’m ready to share. sptr.net will be a space for occasional writing, thinking, drawing, or photography. There’s an rss feed for the picture based posts to subscribe to if you want, or you can follow me on substack for updates. I still love substack for the amazing writing and art there — I’m just not that kind of publisher of content yet. Thanks to those who did follow — I appreciate it but need to step back for a couple of years to get this PhD done. It will be worth it. It will.

I haven’t been able to join the Edinburgh Urban Sketchers for one of their regular sessions since February but things will hopefully settle again soon and I can be more in control of my day. I have been carrying sketching materials around with me for a couple of years now and only rarely find the nerve to actually take them out and use them. I think the February event has broken my fear of drawing in public and I want to do more. Let’s see how it pans out.

Oh, and I quietly retired financially in April, but not intellectually. Maybe that will mean more drawing and photography.
